How do I prepare for my first Brazilian sugaring?

The best way to prepare for your first Brazilian sugaring is to have at least 3-4 weeks worth of growth. Refrain from alcohol, caffeine, smoking cannabis, and exfoliating the day of your appointment. You can take OTC pain relievers 30-45 minutes prior to your appointment to help with any discomfort. Lastly, wear loose-fitting clothing and cotton underwear to allow your skin to breathe.

How Long Does Sugaring Last?

To answer this, you should first know there are 4 phases of hair growth.

  1. Anagen: Growing
  2. Catagen: Regression
  3. Telogen: Resting
  4. Exogen: Shedding

When hair is sugared in the growing phase (typically when its length is 1/8” to ¼” long), it won’t begin to grow back for 3-6 weeks. However, not all of your hairs are in the same phase at any time. We recommend that clients get sugared every 3 weeks for the first 6 months in order to catch every new growth cycle. This leads to long term hair reduction.

How Long Should My Hair Be?

Sugaring doesn't require the hair to be a long as traditional waxing.

Typically 2 weeks from your last shave should be plenty.

Spacing your sugaring appointments 3 weeks apart is recommended.

However, do not trim your hair if it is grown out, you don't want to run the risk of trimming too short. Long hair does not hurt more to get sugared, but strongly rooted hair does hurt more. It isn't the length, it is the strength.

Does Sugaring Cause Ingrown Hairs?
  1. In traditional waxing, hair is removed in the opposite direction of growth, causing both disruption in the follicle and broken hairs. This can cause ingrown hairs to form almost immediately.
  2. Naturally, when new hairs are growing in, if the surface of the skin isn't regularly exfoliated and moisturized, the hair can get trapped under a layer of dry, dead skin cells.
